Overview

This is a combination of three drugs—fentanyl, atropine, and succinylcholine—used primarily as premedication for endotracheal intubation, especially in neonates and pediatric patients. Fentanyl is a potent synthetic opioid analgesic that provides rapid pain relief and blunts the sympathetic response to airway manipulation. Atropine is an antimuscarinic agent that prevents bradycardia by blocking vagal effects on the heart during intubation. Succinylcholine is a depolarizing neuromuscular blocker used to induce rapid muscle relaxation for intubation. This combination aims to optimize intubating conditions by providing analgesia (fentanyl), preventing bradycardia (atropine), and facilitating muscle relaxation (succinylcholine). The regimen has been shown to reduce the number of attempts required for successful intubation with good safety outcomes in newborns[1][3][5].
