Fentanyl iontophoretic transdermal system is a patient-controlled analgesia device designed for the short-term management of acute postoperative pain in adult patients requiring opioid analgesia in the hospital setting. The system uses iontophoresis—a process that employs a mild electrical current—to deliver fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid agonist, across intact skin into systemic circulation.
