Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fentanyl Sandoz is a transdermal patch formulation of the potent opioid analgesic fentanyl, developed as a generic version of the reference product Duragesic. It is indicated for the management of chronic severe pain, including cancer-related pain, in opioid-tolerant patients who require continuous, around-the-clock analgesia. The product utilizes a matrix-based delivery system to provide sustained systemic delivery of fentanyl over a 72-hour period following application to intact skin. Fentanyl acts primarily as a potent agonist at the mu-opioid receptors in the central nervous system, inhibiting ascending pain pathways and altering the perception of and response to pain. Sandoz has demonstrated the therapeutic equivalence of its patch through bioequivalence studies comparing it to the reference listed drug.
