Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fenticap is an antifungal pharmaceutical product developed and marketed by Mercury Laboratories Ltd. It contains fenticonazole, an imidazole-class small molecule, as its active ingredient. Fenticap is primarily indicated for the treatment of vulvovaginal candidiasis and other vaginal fungal infections. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of the fungal enzyme lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase (CYP51A1), which is essential for the synthesis of ergosterol. The resulting depletion of ergosterol and accumulation of methylated sterol precursors lead to the disruption of the fungal cell membrane's structural integrity and function. In India, Fenticap is available in multiple formulations, including a 600mg vaginal capsule and a 30gm topical cream.
