Overview
Fentin is a brand name of phenytoin sodium injection (50 mg/mL) manufactured by Geofman Pharmaceuticals. Phenytoin is a well-established anticonvulsant (antiepileptic) drug used primarily for the control of generalized tonic-clonic (grand mal) and complex partial seizures, as well as for the prevention and treatment of seizures occurring during or following neurosurgery. In acute settings, such as status epilepticus, intravenous phenytoin is administered to rapidly stabilize neuronal membranes and suppress hyperexcitability. It acts by selectively blocking voltage-gated sodium channels in their inactive state, thereby inhibiting the sustained high-frequency repetitive firing of action potentials in the motor cortex.
