**Fenvalerate** is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide composed of a mixture of four stereoisomers, with the 2-S alpha (SS) configuration (known as esfenvalerate) as the most potent isomer[1][5]. It is primarily used to control insects in agricultural crops (especially cotton), public health applications, and animal husbandry, and is effective against a wide spectrum of insect pests, including those resistant to other classes of insecticides[1][3][5][7]. Fenvalerate functions as a neurotoxic agent, disrupting insect nervous system function by prolonging the opening of voltage-gated sodium channels in nerve cells, leading to paralysis and death[7]. Notably, fenvalerate is moderately toxic to mammals and highly toxic to aquatic life and bees[1]. Its metabolism involves ester cleavage and modification of acid and alcohol moieties, and it is available in several formulations, including emulsifiable concentrates, dusts, granules, and ultra-low volume sprays[1][7]. Fenvalerate was first introduced in 1976 and has been widely used internationally[5].
