Overview

Fermathron S is an intra-articular injectable viscosupplement manufactured by Zimmer Biomet, containing a high concentration of cross-linked sodium hyaluronate (69 mg per 3 ml). It is an ultra-high molecular weight preparation derived from non-animal bacterial fermentation, designed to restore the viscoelastic properties of synovial fluid in joints affected by osteoarthritis. By supplementing the deficient joint fluid, Fermathron S provides lubrication and shock absorption, which helps to reduce pain, decrease inflammation, and improve joint mobility. It is specifically indicated for the treatment of osteoarthritis, including hip osteoarthritis (coxarthritis), and has been evaluated in Phase 4 clinical trials comparing its efficacy to corticosteroid injections.
