Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fermented millettia root is a botanical extract prepared by the microbial fermentation of the roots of plants in the *Millettia* genus, primarily *Millettia speciosa* (known as Niu Da Li in Traditional Chinese Medicine). The fermentation process, often utilizing probiotic strains such as *Lactobacillus plantarum*, is employed to enhance the bioavailability and concentration of bioactive constituents, including polysaccharides, flavonoids (such as formononetin), and triterpenoids. It is primarily investigated for its hematopoietic and immunomodulatory properties, specifically its ability to stimulate the production of white blood cells in patients with leukopenia or those experiencing bone marrow suppression due to chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The extract also demonstrates antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities.
