Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ferric carboxymaltose is an iron replacement product used to treat iron deficiency anemia (IDA). It's administered intravenously, delivering iron directly into the bloodstream, which allows 100% of the iron to be delivered without going through the digestive system. The drug is designed to slowly release iron once inside the body, which may decrease potential side effects. Ferric carboxymaltose is a colloidal iron (III) hydroxide in complex with carboxymaltose, a carbohydrate polymer that releases iron.
