Overview
Ferric carboxymaltose + folic acid is an investigational combination therapy being evaluated for the treatment of moderate postpartum anemia. Ferric carboxymaltose is an intravenous iron replacement agent consisting of a colloidal iron(III)-hydroxide complex with carboxymaltose, designed to rapidly replenish iron stores via a single-dose infusion. Folic acid is a B-vitamin that supports erythropoiesis by acting as a cofactor in DNA synthesis and red blood cell production. This combination is specifically studied in the PRIORITY trial (NCT04436952) to compare the efficacy of a single-dose IV iron infusion against standard oral iron supplementation in women diagnosed with anemia following childbirth. The therapy targets the restoration of hemoglobin levels and iron stores to improve maternal health outcomes.
