Ferrimanitol ovalbumin is an iron-protein complex consisting of trivalent iron (Fe³⁺) coordinated with mannitol and ovalbumin (the primary protein found in egg white). It is a pharmaceutical preparation specifically developed for the treatment of iron deficiency states and iron deficiency anemia. The complex is designed to remain stable and insoluble at the acidic pH of the stomach, which prevents the release of free iron ions that typically cause gastric mucosal irritation and side effects common with traditional ferrous salts. Upon entering the alkaline environment of the duodenum and jejunum, the complex releases iron in a controlled manner for absorption. This pharmacokinetic profile results in significantly improved gastrointestinal tolerability while maintaining high bioavailability for the restoration of systemic iron levels.
