Drug intelligence / Profile preview
FerroTrace is a super-paramagnetic iron-oxide nanoparticle (SPION) tracer developed by Ferronova Pty Ltd. It is designed for magnetic sentinel lymph node mapping in various cancers, including upper gastro-intestinal, colorectal, and oral squamous cell carcinoma. FerroTrace is injected peri-tumorally and follows the lymphatic system, accumulating in sentinel lymph nodes. Its magnetic properties allow for detection via MRI for pre-surgical planning and with a handheld magnetometer probe during surgery, aiding in the identification of high-risk lymph nodes for targeted radiotherapy and surgical excision. It is mannose-labelled, which contributes to its high specificity to high-risk lymph nodes due to macrophage binding via the CD206 receptor. FerroTrace offers extended retention in lymph nodes, eliminating time-sensitive logistical issues associated with radiotracers.
