Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ferrous ascorbate + folic acid is a combination oral nutritional supplement manufactured by Saltvae Pharmaceuticals. It is primarily indicated for the treatment and prevention of iron deficiency anemia and folate deficiency, particularly during pregnancy or in cases of chronic blood loss or nutritional inadequacy. Ferrous ascorbate is a synthetic molecule consisting of iron and ascorbic acid (Vitamin C); the ascorbic acid acts as a reducing agent to maintain iron in the ferrous (Fe2+) state, which is more readily absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract compared to the ferric state. Folic acid, a member of the Vitamin B complex, is essential for DNA synthesis, amino acid metabolism, and the maturation of red blood cells. Together, these components work to replenish iron stores and support healthy erythropoiesis, thereby improving hemoglobin levels and oxygen transport in the body.
