Overview

Ferretab is an oral iron supplement formulation developed and manufactured by G.L. Pharma. It primarily consists of ferrous (II) fumarate, a stable iron salt, combined with ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) to enhance intestinal iron absorption. A variant known as Ferretab comp. includes folic acid instead of ascorbic acid. The drug is delivered in a prolonged-release capsule format, providing 50 mg of elemental iron per dose. It is indicated for the treatment and prevention of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia, particularly in pregnant women and those undergoing fertility treatments. By replenishing iron stores, Ferretab stimulates hemoglobin synthesis and red blood cell production. It has been evaluated in Phase 4 clinical trials, such as those conducted by Das Kinderwunsch Institut Schenk, to compare its efficacy with intravenous iron therapies in women undergoing ovarian stimulation and other fertility procedures.
