ferrous glycine sulfate

Ferrous glycine sulfate is an oral iron salt compound used as a mineral supplement for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia. It consists of iron (II) coordinated with the amino acid glycine. In clinical research conducted by Assiut University, it was evaluated in a Phase 4 trial (NCT02590224) for its efficacy and safety in pregnant women with mild to moderate anemia, where it was compared to ferrous bis-glycinate. The drug works by providing a source of elemental iron necessary for the synthesis of hemoglobin in red blood cells. While effective at increasing hemoglobin levels, studies have indicated it may be associated with higher rates of gastrointestinal side effects compared to chelated forms like ferrous bis-glycinate.
