Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fertomcidina U is a topical antiseptic solution primarily used for the treatment of oral mucosal lesions, including recurrent aphthous stomatitis, gingivitis, and periodontitis. It is a complex formulation containing iodine, sulfuric acid, and nitric acid. The drug exerts its therapeutic effect through the broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties of iodine, which oxidizes essential biological molecules in pathogens, while the acidic components may assist in the cleansing and debridement of the affected tissue. It has been evaluated in Phase 4 clinical trials comparing its efficacy to chlorhexidine for symptom relief and lesion healing in patients with minor aphthous ulcers.
