Fetrasil

Fetrasil is a brand of weight management medication developed and manufactured by Taj Pharmaceuticals. The brand name has been associated with two distinct active pharmaceutical ingredients: sibutramine hydrochloride monohydrate and orlistat. Sibutramine is a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) that acts centrally as an appetite suppressant by increasing satiety and metabolic rate. Orlistat is a potent, specific, and long-acting inhibitor of gastrointestinal lipases, which works peripherally to prevent the absorption of approximately 30% of dietary fats. While sibutramine was historically used for obesity treatment, it has been withdrawn from many global markets due to cardiovascular safety concerns, leading Taj Pharma to transition the Fetrasil brand to orlistat formulations. Fetrasil is indicated for the management of obesity and weight loss in conjunction with a reduced-calorie diet.
