Drug intelligence / Profile preview
FGF-23 blocking peptide (also known as cFGF23 or carboxyl-terminal FGF23 peptide) is a peptide corresponding to the C-terminal tail of fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23), typically spanning residues Ser180 to Ile251 of the human protein. It acts as a competitive antagonist of intact, biologically active FGF23 by binding to the co-receptor Klotho, thereby preventing the formation of the active FGF23-FGFR-Klotho signaling complex. In preclinical models, the peptide has been used to inhibit pathological FGF23 signaling, demonstrating therapeutic potential in rescuing bone mineralization and restoring hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) niche interactions in beta-thalassemia, as well as ameliorating inflammation, anemia, and kidney injury in models of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and acute inflammation.
