FGLM-NH2 + SSSR is a combination peptide ophthalmic solution designed to treat neurotrophic keratopathy, particularly in patients with leprosy sequelae. FGLM-NH2 is a tetrapeptide (Phe-Gly-Leu-Met-NH2) derived from the C-terminus of Substance P, while SSSR is a tetrapeptide (Ser-Ser-Ser-Arg) derived from the cell-binding domain of fibronectin. Together, they act synergistically to stimulate corneal epithelial cell migration and attachment, facilitating the repair of persistent epithelial defects caused by trigeminal nerve damage. The therapy was developed through research at Yamaguchi University and has been evaluated in clinical trials sponsored by Japanese medical research funds, demonstrating significant efficacy in healing corneal epithelial defects and increasing corneal thickness.
