FHT-171 is a highly potent and selective oral small molecule inhibitor of Matrix Metalloproteinase-12 (MMP-12), also known as macrophage elastase. Developed by Foresee Pharmaceuticals, FHT-171 is primarily being investigated for the treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and asthma. MMP-12 is a proteolytic enzyme secreted by macrophages that plays a critical role in the degradation of extracellular matrix components, particularly elastin, which leads to lung tissue destruction and chronic inflammation.
