Overview

Fibrin-PTH (KUR-113) is a novel investigational drug-biologic combination product designed to promote targeted and controlled bone generation. It consists of a natural fibrin-based healing matrix with an immobilized truncated human parathyroid hormone (PTH) analog. The product is applied as a gel directly into and around an intervertebral body fusion device during spinal fusion surgery; it polymerizes in situ to form a solid clot. As the fibrin matrix degrades over time, PTH1-34 is locally released at the site of application. The mechanism of action leverages the well-established bone anabolic effects of parathyroid hormone via agonism at the parathyroid hormone receptor (PTH1R), stimulating osteogenesis and promoting bone healing. Preclinical studies have shown efficacy comparable to recombinant human BMP-2 in animal models for spinal fusion and fracture repair[1][3][5][6]. Fibrin-PTH is being developed primarily for use in spinal fusion procedures such as those required for degenerative disc disease or spondylolisthesis[1][3][6]. It remains investigational and has not yet been approved for clinical use.
