Overview
Fibrin sealant Kedrion is a biologic hemostatic agent developed by Kedrion S.p.A., an Italian biopharmaceutical company specializing in plasma-derived products. It is a two-component fibrin glue consisting of human plasma-derived fibrinogen and human thrombin, which are the key proteins involved in the final stage of the blood coagulation cascade. Upon application to a surgical site, thrombin converts fibrinogen into fibrin, forming a stable clot that promotes hemostasis and tissue sealing. The product has been primarily evaluated as a surgical adjunct to control intraoperative and postoperative blood loss in adult patients undergoing major or minor hepatic resection in Phase II/III clinical trials.
