Overview

Fibrinogen human is a hemostatic agent and plasma-derived protein used to treat acute bleeding episodes in patients with congenital or acquired fibrinogen deficiency—including afibrinogenemia and hypofibrinogenemia. It works by replacing missing or deficient fibrinogen (factor I), a soluble plasma glycoprotein essential for blood clot formation. Fibrinogen is the physiological substrate for thrombin (which converts it to insoluble fibrin during coagulation), plasmin (which degrades it during fibrinolysis), and factor XIIIa (which crosslinks the resulting clot). In clinical practice, it is administered intravenously as a concentrate to restore hemostasis in bleeding patients. It may also be used as an adjunct to surgical hemostasis when standard techniques are insufficient[1][2][3][4][5].
