Fibroblast growth factor 2 gene therapy is an investigational gene therapy developed by Vector Gene Technology in collaboration with Id Pharma for the treatment of arterial occlusion. The therapy involves the delivery of the FGF2 gene, which encodes basic Fibroblast Growth Factor 2 (bFGF), a potent mitogen and angiogenic factor. By increasing local expression of bFGF, the therapy aims to stimulate the proliferation of endothelial and smooth muscle cells, thereby promoting angiogenesis and the repair of vascular structures in ischemic tissues. This process facilitates the formation of collateral circulation to bypass occluded arteries and restore blood flow to affected areas.
