Overview

FibroNox is developing an inhaled small molecule Nrf2 activator as a novel treatment for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). The drug's mechanism of action involves the activation of the Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) antioxidant pathway, which serves as a master regulator of cellular defenses against oxidative stress. By restoring Nrf2 activity, which is typically deficient in IPF patients, the therapy aims to mitigate fibrotic progression and reduce pro-fibrotic myofibroblast phenotypes. Preclinical studies suggest that direct delivery to the lungs via inhalation achieves robust efficacy at significantly lower doses than systemic oral delivery, potentially improving the safety and therapeutic profile.
