Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fibroquel is a biodynamic modulator and viscosupplement composed of a combination of type I collagen and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). Administered via intra-articular injection, it is primarily used for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis, where it acts to improve joint function and reduce pain. Beyond its mechanical properties as a viscosupplement, Fibroquel is designed to modulate the local inflammatory environment within the joint by regulating the expression of cytokines and growth factors; specifically, it has been shown to decrease pro-inflammatory markers such as interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) while increasing anti-inflammatory factors like transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1). The product has been evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials in Mexico, demonstrating non-inferiority to established treatments like Hylan G-F 20 (Synvisc) in patients with Kellgren-Lawrence Grade II or III knee osteoarthritis.
