Overview

FibroScint (Tc-99m F4A) is a diagnostic nuclear imaging radiopharmaceutical being developed by Capella Imaging for the detection of cardiovascular thrombi. The agent consists of a small peptide (F4A) that specifically targets and binds to fibrin, a key structural component of blood clots, labeled with the radioisotope technetium-99m (Tc-99m). This allows for the visualization of active thrombi using Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) imaging. Originally invented by researchers at the Washington University School of Medicine, FibroScint is intended to address unmet diagnostic needs in conditions such as left ventricular assist device (LVAD) thrombosis, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), and acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The drug received FDA Investigational New Drug (IND) clearance in August 2024 and is currently in early-stage clinical development.
