figopitant

Figopitant is a small molecule investigational drug that acts as a selective antagonist of the neurokinin 1 receptor (NK1R), also known as the tachykinin NK1 receptor. By blocking this receptor, figopitant inhibits the action of substance P, a neuropeptide involved in processes such as pain transmission, inflammation, and pruritus (itch). Preclinical studies have shown that figopitant can inhibit scratching behavior in models of atopic dermatitis. The drug has been evaluated in phase 1 clinical trials to assess its safety, tolerability, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers. Figopitant was initially developed by Boehringer Ingelheim[1][2][3][4][5][9].
