Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Filgrastim + alemtuzumab is a combination therapy consisting of filgrastim, a recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF), and alemtuzumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting CD52. Filgrastim stimulates the production of neutrophils to reduce the risk of infection during periods of neutropenia, while alemtuzumab depletes lymphocytes by binding to CD52 on their surface, leading to cell lysis via antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity and complement-mediated lysis. This combination has been investigated primarily in hematologic malignancies such as refractory chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and in conditioning regimens for stem cell transplantation in severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID). The rationale for combining these agents is to mitigate the profound neutropenia caused by alemtuzumab with filgrastim support; however, studies have reported significant infectious complications including cytomegalovirus reactivation and delayed neutropenia[1][6].
