Overview

Filgrastim + pegfilgrastim is a combination of two forms of recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF): filgrastim, a short-acting G-CSF, and pegfilgrastim, a long-acting PEGylated form. Both agents stimulate the proliferation, differentiation, and activation of neutrophil precursors in the bone marrow by binding to the G-CSF receptor on myeloid cells. Filgrastim is typically administered daily due to its shorter half-life, while pegfilgrastim requires less frequent dosing because PEGylation prolongs its duration in circulation. The combination has been studied for stem cell mobilization and neutropenia management but has not shown superiority over single-agent use for these indications[1][2][7]. Both drugs are primarily used to reduce the incidence or duration of neutropenia associated with chemotherapy or other causes.
