Overview

Filgrastim-sndz is a biosimilar of filgrastim, marketed under the brand name Zarxio. It is a recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) that acts as a leukocyte growth factor. Filgrastim-sndz stimulates the production, maturation, and activation of neutrophils to increase their numbers in peripheral blood. It is FDA approved for all indications of its reference product Neupogen (filgrastim), including reducing the incidence of infection in patients with nonmyeloid malignancies receiving myelosuppressive chemotherapy, treating acute myeloid leukemia during induction or consolidation chemotherapy, supporting bone marrow transplantation and autologous peripheral blood progenitor cell collection/therapy, managing severe chronic neutropenia (congenital, cyclic, or idiopathic), and increasing survival in patients acutely exposed to myelosuppressive doses of radiation (hematopoietic syndrome of acute radiation syndrome)[2][3][10]. The drug can be administered by subcutaneous injection or intravenous infusion[2][3].
