Overview

The filovirus alphavaccine is a recombinant vaccine candidate developed by AlphaVax for biodefense against filovirus infections, including Ebola and Marburg viruses. It utilizes the company's proprietary Viral Replicon Particle (VRP) technology, which is based on a replication-defective alphavirus vector derived from the Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis (VEE) virus. The VRPs carry RNA encoding specific filovirus antigens; once injected, they infect host cells and express these antigens to stimulate robust humoral (antibody) and cellular (T-cell) immune responses. Because the vector is replication-defective, it cannot produce new infectious viral particles, enhancing the safety profile while maintaining the high immunogenicity characteristic of alphavirus infections. This platform is particularly suited for biodefense due to its ability to induce rapid protection.
