Filtek Z250 is a light-cured, radiopaque, microhybrid dental composite resin used for both anterior and posterior restorations. Developed by 3M ESPE, it is composed of a resin matrix (BIS-GMA, UDMA, BIS-EMA) and zirconia/silica filler particles. It is designed for high strength, low polymerization shrinkage, and excellent wear resistance. In clinical practice, it requires a manual shade-matching procedure using a standard shade guide (e.g., VITA) to ensure aesthetic integration with the surrounding dentition. It is frequently used as a gold-standard control in clinical trials evaluating newer 'universal' or 'chameleon' shade-matching composites, such as the trial conducted by Cairo University comparing it to Omnichroma.
