Filtered autologous adipose tissue is a biological product derived from a patient's own fat through a process of harvesting (liposuction) and mechanical filtration. This procedure, typically performed at the point of care, removes pro-inflammatory components such as blood and oil residues while preserving the adipose tissue's structural micro-architecture and its resident cell populations. These populations include mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), pericytes, and other stromal cells within their natural extracellular matrix. When administered via intra-articular injection for knee osteoarthritis, the tissue provides mechanical cushioning and acts as a biological factory, releasing anti-inflammatory cytokines and growth factors that modulate the joint environment, reduce pain, and potentially support tissue repair through paracrine signaling.
