Fimaporfin + gemcitabine + cisplatin is an experimental combination regimen under investigation primarily for advanced or unresectable biliary tract cancers, including cholangiocarcinoma. Fimaporfin is a photosensitizer used in photochemical internalization (PCI); it facilitates the release of co-administered chemotherapeutic agents from endosomes into the cytosol when activated by light. When combined with gemcitabine (an antimetabolite that inhibits DNA synthesis) and cisplatin (a platinum-based DNA cross-linker), the regimen aims to enhance the cytotoxic effects of chemotherapy within malignant cells. The combination is typically tested where locoregional disease control is needed and standard therapy is insufficient.
