Drug intelligence / Profile preview
WIE-2302 is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) drug candidate being developed by Whanin Pharmaceutical for the treatment of essential hypertension. It consists of fimasartan, a non-peptide angiotensin II receptor antagonist (ARB), and chlorthalidone, a thiazide-like diuretic. Fimasartan lowers blood pressure by selectively blocking the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor, which prevents the vasoconstrictive and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II. Chlorthalidone acts as a diuretic by inhibiting sodium and chloride reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubule of the kidney, thereby reducing plasma volume and extracellular fluid. This combination is intended for patients whose hypertension is not adequately controlled by monotherapy, providing a synergistic effect to achieve target blood pressure levels. WIE-2302 is currently undergoing Phase 3 clinical trials in South Korea.
