Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fimasartan + S-amlodipine is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) antihypertensive medication developed and marketed by AJU Pharm. It combines fimasartan, a non-peptide angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that selectively inhibits the AT1 receptor, with S-amlodipine, the pharmacologically active S-enantiomer of the calcium channel blocker amlodipine. Fimasartan reduces blood pressure by blocking the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II, while S-amlodipine inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to peripheral vasodilation. This dual mechanism is particularly effective for patients with essential hypertension who require multiple agents for blood pressure control. The use of the S-enantiomer of amlodipine is intended to provide similar efficacy to racemic amlodipine at lower doses, potentially reducing the incidence of side effects such as peripheral edema.
