FimaVacc is a vaccine technology platform developed by PCI Biotech that utilizes photochemical internalization (PCI) to enhance cellular immune responses for therapeutic cancer vaccines. The technology involves the administration of a vaccine formulation containing a photosensitizing compound called fimaporfin, antigens (such as proteins or peptides), and toll-like receptor (TLR) agonists. Following intradermal injection, the vaccination site is illuminated, triggering the release of antigens from endosomes into the cytosol. This process facilitates enhanced MHC class I antigen presentation, which in turn stimulates robust cytotoxic CD8+ T-cell and helper CD4+ T-cell responses. A Phase I clinical trial in healthy volunteers has demonstrated the platform's safety and ability to enhance T-cell responses across a wide range of doses.
