FINCoVac (also known as Fakhravac or MIVAC) is an inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine developed by the Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research (SPND) and Milad Darou in Iran. The vaccine utilizes a traditional whole-virus platform where the SARS-CoV-2 virus is grown in Vero cells and subsequently inactivated using beta-propiolactone. This process ensures the virus cannot replicate while maintaining the integrity of its structural proteins, such as the spike (S), envelope (E), membrane (M), and nucleocapsid (N) proteins. When administered intramuscularly with an aluminum hydroxide adjuvant, the vaccine stimulates the production of neutralizing antibodies and activates T-cell mediated immunity against multiple viral antigens. Although it received emergency use authorization in Iran in September 2021, its production was reportedly discontinued shortly thereafter due to a surplus of other available vaccines.
