Drug intelligence / Profile preview
FINCoVac is an intranasal COVID-19 vaccine candidate developed by Rokote Laboratories Finland Oy. It utilizes a replication-deficient adenovirus type 5 (Ad5) vector to deliver the genetic sequence of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein directly to the nasopharyngeal mucosa. Unlike traditional intramuscular vaccines that primarily induce systemic IgG antibodies, FINCoVac is designed to stimulate a robust local mucosal immune response, characterized by secretory IgA, in addition to systemic immunity. This dual-action approach aims to provide a more effective barrier at the site of viral entry, potentially reducing not only the severity of the disease but also the transmission of the virus. The vaccine is being developed primarily as a booster to enhance and broaden protection in individuals previously vaccinated with injectable COVID-19 vaccines.
