Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Finerenone + semaglutide is an investigational combination of two distinct therapeutic agents being evaluated for the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Finerenone is a non-steroidal, selective mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist (MRA) developed by Bayer and marketed under the brand name Kerendia, which targets the mineralocorticoid receptor to reduce inflammation and fibrosis in the kidney and cardiovascular system. Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist developed by Novo Nordisk and marketed under brand names such as Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus, which targets the GLP-1 receptor to improve glycemic control, promote weight loss, and provide cardiorenal protection. The combination is being studied in clinical trials, such as the Phase II FINESSE-CKD trial sponsored by the University Medical Center Groningen, to evaluate its synergistic effects on reducing albuminuria and slowing the progression of CKD.
