Overview
Finger citron, also known as Buddha's hand or Foshou, is the fruit of *Citrus medica* var. *sarcodactylis* used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It is primarily utilized to treat gastrointestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and functional dyspepsia. The herb is characterized by its high content of essential oils (including limonene and citral), flavonoids, and coumarins. Its pharmacological actions include antispasmodic effects on intestinal smooth muscle, anti-inflammatory activity, and regulation of gastrointestinal motility. In TCM theory, it is classified as a Qi-regulating herb that soothes the liver and harmonizes the stomach, addressing symptoms like abdominal pain, bloating, and nausea.
