FINLAY-FR-1, also known as Soberana 01, is a protein subunit vaccine candidate developed for the prevention of COVID-19. It consists of a recombinant dimeric receptor binding domain (d-RBD) from the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, expressed in Chinese hamster ovary cells and formulated with aluminium hydroxide gel as an adjuvant. In some formulations, it also includes outer membrane vesicles from Neisseria meningitidis group B. The vaccine is designed to induce neutralizing antibodies against the RBD of SARS-CoV-2 and has demonstrated strong immunogenicity and safety in clinical trials. It was developed by the Finlay Vaccine Institute in Cuba primarily for use as a prophylactic vaccine against COVID-19[1][3][6].
