Drug intelligence / Profile preview
FINLAY-FR-1A (also known as Soberana Plus) is a protein subunit COVID-19 vaccine developed by the Finlay Vaccine Institute in Cuba. It consists of a recombinant dimeric receptor binding domain (d-RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein adsorbed on aluminum hydroxide gel. The vaccine is designed to boost immunity in individuals previously infected with SARS-CoV-2 or those who have completed primary vaccination with other COVID-19 vaccines such as Soberana 02. Mechanistically, it works by inducing strong humoral and cellular immune responses against the RBD of the spike protein, thereby enhancing neutralizing antibody titers and T-cell responses. Clinical trials have demonstrated that a single dose significantly increases anti-RBD IgG levels and virus-neutralizing antibodies in convalescent individuals, with an excellent safety profile[2][4][5][7][8]. It has been approved for use as a booster dose after two doses of Soberana 02 and for COVID-19 survivors.
