Fipravirimat is an orally administered small-molecule HIV-1 maturation inhibitor that disrupts the final protease-mediated processing steps of the Gag polyprotein, leading to the production of structurally immature, non-infectious virions and thereby suppressing HIV replication.[1][3][13][15] Developed by ViiV Healthcare (in partnership with GSK) as a next-generation maturation inhibitor with an optimized resistance profile compared with earlier agents in this class, it advanced into Phase 2 clinical trials for the treatment of HIV-1 infection but its clinical development program was discontinued around 2023 without regulatory approval.[1][3][13][14]
