Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fiprocat is a veterinary topical spot-on solution developed and marketed by Pure Med Farma (Pure Med Biotech) for the treatment and prevention of flea, tick, and biting lice infestations in cats. The active ingredient is fipronil, a broad-spectrum insecticide and acaricide belonging to the phenylpyrazole chemical family. Fipronil acts by disrupting the central nervous system of parasites through the potent inhibition of the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-gated chloride channel and the glutamate-gated chloride channel (GluCl). This interference leads to the hyperexcitation of the parasite's nerves and muscles, resulting in death. The spot-on formulation is designed for topical application, where it distributes across the animal's body surface and accumulates in the sebaceous glands, providing prolonged residual activity against ectoparasites.
