Overview

fIPV + Rotarix is a combination vaccine regimen consisting of a fractional dose of inactivated poliovirus vaccine (fIPV) and the live attenuated oral rotavirus vaccine, Rotarix. The fIPV component is a dose-sparing formulation, representing one-fifth (0.1 mL) of the standard IPV dose, administered intradermally to provide protection against poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3. Rotarix is a monovalent vaccine containing the human rotavirus strain RIX4414, designed to prevent rotavirus-induced gastroenteritis. This regimen was evaluated in a Phase IV clinical trial (NCT02847026) sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to assess the immunogenicity of booster doses and concomitant administration in infants, particularly in the context of global IPV supply shortages.
