firocoxib

Firocoxib is a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor belonging to the coxib class of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is approved for veterinary use in dogs and horses, primarily for the management of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis, as well as for perioperative pain and chronic musculoskeletal disorders. Firocoxib acts by selectively inhibiting COX-2-mediated prostaglandin synthesis, resulting in analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects. Its selectivity for COX-2 over COX-1 reduces the risk of gastrointestinal side effects commonly seen with non-selective NSAIDs. Firocoxib was the first COX-2 inhibitor approved by the FDA for use in horses. It is not intended or approved for human medicine[3][4][5][6].
