First Relief

First Relief is an over-the-counter (OTC) fixed-dose combination medication containing 500 mg of acetaminophen and 150 mg of ibuprofen per tablet. Developed by AFT Pharmaceuticals, it is indicated for the temporary relief of minor aches and pains associated with headaches, toothaches, backaches, menstrual cramps, muscular aches, and arthritis, as well as for the reduction of fever. The combination provides a multi-modal approach to analgesia; acetaminophen is thought to act primarily through central nervous system pathways to elevate the pain threshold, while ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), provides peripheral anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the enzymes cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). This synergy allows for effective pain management at lower individual doses of each component, potentially reducing the risk of side effects associated with higher doses of either drug alone.
