Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination dietary supplement containing fish oil (a source of omega-3 fatty acids such as DHA and EPA), lutein, meso-zeaxanthin, and zeaxanthin. These ingredients are xanthophyll carotenoids (lutein, meso-zeaxanthin, zeaxanthin) and long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (from fish oil). The supplement is designed to support eye health by increasing macular pigment optical density in the retina. The carotenoids act as antioxidants that filter blue light and reduce oxidative stress in the macula; their combined use has been shown to be more effective than individual components for rebuilding macular pigment[5][6][7]. Fish oil provides DHA/EPA which may have neuroprotective effects. Clinical studies suggest this combination may help slow progression of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) by protecting retinal cells from oxidative damage[2][4][5]. There is also preliminary evidence for benefits in cognitive function and Alzheimer's disease[3][4].
